Mixed Media Identity Project:
For my mixed media/identity project I decided to make a self portrait. The self portrait is black and white represent my my blank and plain personality. Except for some red accents in the eyes and lips. I did this to bring out some color and instill cohesiveness to the piece. In the background I collaged pages from a book on the left side with some highlighted words with red colored pencil that are important to me such as, love, empathy, etc. Then on the left I collaged numbers from newspapers/worksheets, numbers from maps, and some finely printed code like numbers I found on a newspaper that seemed strange to me. Finally to bring it all together, in the top right corner I hand-printed some computer coding over top of red water color. I did this to show the split between Something I am good at/ I enjoy (reading, writing, literature, and kind words) to something I am not good at and causes me a great deal of frustration and hardship (math and linear things). Lastly I used a red- sort of icon like red going all around the portrait in the middle to cause a dramatic, aestetically pleasing effect to the viewer. Also to represent fire, passion, and strong emotion.
